Refers to the lower bowel (back passage).

bisexual

Males or females who are sexually or romantically attracted to both males and females.

When mouth is used for sexual pleasure on the male genitals.

bullying

To be offensive and hurtful towards another person. This can be deliberate or accidental. Either way you have the right to ask for this to stop. confidentiality

The adult you are talking to should not tell anyone else. However, if it was thought that you or someone else was at serious risk, the adult would discuss the situation with you and in certain situations they might need to pass some information on. Where possible this will happen with your knowledge and permission.
In Scotland you have a right to confidentiality even if you are under sixteen. It's best to check out their confidentiality policy first. If in doubt ask.

contraception

Contraception can also be called 'birth control'. Contraception literally means preventing pregnancy.
Contraception is only effective if used as per instructions, this is why there are a range of options to best suit different peoples needs.

emergency-contraception

A way of preventing pregnancy after unprotected sex (sex without using contraception or when contraception has failed for example a condom has split).
There are 2 types of emergency contraception, emergency pills (sometimes called the morning after pill) and the IUD (coil).
The pill can be taken up to 72 hours after sex, or the coil can be inserted up to 5 days later. However these do not protect you from sexually transmitted infections.

gay

A word that describes people who are sexually or romantically attracted to people of the same sex. Gay can apply to men or women. The word can be used in positive or negative ways depending on who says it and why.

heavy petting

As part of sexual activity many people enjoy stimulating each other's sexual parts with their hand or mouth, this is sometimes called 'touching someone up'. This can also be called 'foreplay' meaning it could be something you do before intercourse. Foreplay prepares the body for sexual intercourse. Heavy petting can also be safer sex and enjoyable without sexual intercourse.

homophobic

Fear or dislike of someone who is gay. It is illegal to treat people unfairly because of their sexual orientation. It is a form of bullying.

love

To have strong emotional feelings of affection and care for a person or thing. This may or may not include or lead to sexual feelings.

lubricant

A substance used with condoms to stop them drying out/breaking. Must be water based or silicon based. NEVER use oil based substances with condoms as this will weaken them. The use of lubricant can enhance sexual pleasure.

massaging

The act of rubbing and kneading to stimulate or relax the body. It can be used for medical reasons but can also be an enjoyable part of safer sex. Be careful with massage oil if using condoms as this will damage condoms.

penis

Male organ which urine and semen pass through. Has many slang names.

pregnancy

This is when a sperm fertilises an egg and it is implanted in the uterus. The female carries the developing child in her uterus for about 40 weeks before giving birth.

pregnant

This is when a woman has a fertilised egg in her uterus that will develop into a foetus.

ready

Having thought through the consequences of any actions you may take and being prepared to deal with the outcome and take responsiblility for this. Never be pushed into an action you feel uncomfortable with as this would suggest you aren't ready.

relationships

To be connected with someone. There are many different types of relationships. These may be through family, school, interests, friends, and many more. Good relationships are based on respect, trust and talking to each other.

respect

Showing a high regard by acting in a positive way to another person for example by listening and talking to them and accepting them for who they are. We are all different and have different opinions and that is ok.

sex

Can mean all types of sexual activity not just shagging. Sex is also a word used to define a person’s gender e.g. male or female.

shagging

A slang word for sexual intercourse i.e. when the penis enters the vagina.

slut

A slang word used as a negative term for girls who have many sexual partners. Whether or not a girl has had many partners using this word is a form of bullying.

special

This means something set aside from the ordinary that is remembered in a positive way.

STI

STI is the initials for Sexually Transmitted Infection. They are viral and bacterial infections that are passed beween people during sexual activity. You may have heard about some of them like chlamydia or HIV.

tart

A slang word with many different meanings. e.g. a girl who dresses in a particular way to attract sexual interest, a girl who has had many sexual partners. Whether or not this is true using this word is a form of bullying.

tease

To mock, which can be intended as a form of bullying or as a form of humour. It can also mean to offer or appear to offer something to another person and not fulfill that offer.

uterus

Another name for the womb which is part of the female reproductive system where a child grows during pregnancy.

vagina

This is the external opening of the female reproductive system. There are lots of different slang names for this e.g. fanny and flower.

vaginal

virgin

A virgin is the term used for people who have not had sexual intercourse. No matter what people say, being a virgin is neither bad nor good, what is important is that you only have sex when you are ready to.

wanking

Slang word for masturbation. Rubbing your sexual organs on your own or with a partner for sexual pleasure.
